Synopsis
Pim de la Parra’s final Minimal Movie, long withheld from release due to tragic circumstances and legal complications, offers a fresh and uncompromising look at friendship, love, and desire. The film follows two close couples: Audrey, a successful novelist, and her husband Derek, a professor of paradoxical logic; and Loes, a motorcycle mechanic and horse enthusiast, with her partner Robert, a painter. What begins as a seemingly harmonious gathering gradually exposes simmering tensions, jealousy, and hidden desires. Small irritations and erotic impulses spark humorous, confrontational, and sometimes painful encounters, revealing the fragile dynamics that shape intimate relationships. Shot in black and white over just ten days in Amsterdam and Rotterdam, The Last Minimal Movie is the final chapter in the series of fifteen minimalist films De la Parra created in the 1990s as part of the Ronald da Silva film collective. Delayed for years by tragedy and legal disputes, the film finally emerges as a bold, intimate, and uncompromising testament to one of Dutch cinema's most distinctive independent filmmakers.
